Hello Friends of Bui,
It has been awhile since I posted and an update is long overdue.
First off, I want to send out a thank you to David Pollock from Prism Imaging, and Diana Millar and Quinton Gordon at Lúz Gallery in Victoria, BC. The Victoria exhibition of the ‘Sena’ portraits was a huge success and over $1500 were raised! A big thanks to all those that supported the show through purchase or donation.
Hopefully the success of the Victoria show is a sign of good things to come. I am currently in New York City visiting with a close friend and will be meeting with some people to discuss showing Sena in NYC in the coming weeks. The shots were accepted as a winner in the upcoming 2011 Hearst Biennial at the Alexey Brodovitch Gallery in Hearst Tower.
The Hearst Biennial only adds to the growing list:
Flash Forward 2010, Honorable Mention.
2010 International Photography Awards, 1st Place, Non-Pro, Portrait
2010 International Photography Awards, 1st In Category, Non-Pro, People
2010 International Photography Awards, Nominee, 2010 Discovery of the Year (Results pending)
2010 Photolucida Critical Mass, Finalist (Results pending)
Hearst 2011 Photography Biennial, Winner
Last but not least, the album ‘Banda Music’ is complete. The field recordings I made in Ghana feature a mix of local traditional and contemporary music. Like the photos, all proceeds after costs go to Friends of Bui projects. If you are interested in purchasing a copy of the CD there are a few available at Lúz in Victoria. I will hopefully organize an online ordering system when I return home and am currently looking into getting it on the ITunes store and Bandcamp.
Thanks again to all those who have helped out so far.
President of Friends of Bui
